    Description

This is a wonderful ca 1890’s Native American Plains / Sioux Indian, braided hide wrapped, war club or horse quirt.
This piece measures approx.16”long and features a brown braided hide wrap to the shaft  The  bottom 2" & the top 2.5" of the club are  slightly thicker & wrapped with black braided hide
There is  a rawhide strap handle coming from the bottom of the club & a loop of hide approx 7:" up from the bottom to sling it over the arm to carry it
I do not claim to be an expert on Native American artifacts so if you an add anything to the history of the item I will add it to the description
I am selling this for a 75 year old gentleman who purchased this on the reservation about 40 years ago
The Sioux artifact is not NOT a reproduction or modern recreation but an original, Sioux piece made in the fourth quarter of the 19th century.
This war club / quirt is in very good condition.
It is structurally solid &  the hide wrap on the shaft is tight & not brittle.
While there is some overall wear commensurate with age and use, overall this piece is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully.
This piece was purchased in the late 1990's at Twila's Trading Post in  Pine Ridge
    South Dakota
The tag that is on it now is the same one that was on it when it was purchased
    Title tag reads:
" Once owned by Dawson "Little Soldier"
Oglala Sioux Pine Ridge SD.  1800's "
