    Description

Antique 19thC Native American Tomahawk / axe, purchased in Arizona in the 1980's and attributed to the Apache, the handle is covered in hide sewn with sinew, decorated with brass tacks, red and white pony beads, and a bit of red trade cloth, the beads are strung on finely hand spun thin hide strips, the drop has dear toe tinklers, the family lore is that it was purchased from a "museum" and identified as Apache, but I wonder if it may have been traded into the region from another group and used by the Apache, there are numerous condition problems associated with age and use, rusted axe head, missing beads, the hide the beads are strung on is fragile and should be handled gently, the dear toes have damage, the drop fits more snugly at the top of the handle, but I wonder if it may have been attached at the bottom at one time, the approximate size it 15 inches tall
