Description
A beautiful late nineteenth century Northern Plains iron pipe ax with tacked and leaded wood handle. This is a handsome specimen of an iron tomahawk seen in so many of the early photographs of the period. Featuring a 10 1/2" long x 4 1/2" wide iron blade and pipe head and a 2 1/4" long file branded and beautifully tacked oak handle with great warm patina. The mouth piece was cast in place atop the wood from melted lead bullets. This a prime example of this period with a very unique star, tipi and disc blade cut out.
