ca1920s NATIVE AMERICAN PLAINS / BLACKFOOT INDIAN WOODEN ARROW WITH NAPPED POINT

Very rare and original, ca1920’s Native American Plains (possibly Blackfoot) Indian Hand Made, Napped Obsidian Tipped Arrow. This outstanding, early 20th century Plains Indian Arrow measures approx. 24 1/2" long including its hand napped stone Arrowhead.
The Arrow has a hand carved, v-shaped notch (known as nocks) at the back end that would fit over the string of the Bow and retains remnants of the original feathers at the fletching. The lower end of the feathers are affixed to the shaft with the original, sinew wrap while the upper end has an old repair with braided string. The Obsidian Point measures approx. 1" long and is tightly affixed to the shaft by what appears to be the original, sinew wrap. The form of the point is a flattened, spade shape.

This arrow and one other which we are offering for sale this week on eBay, came to us identified as Blackfoot – we can not be 100% sure of the Tribal origin of this outstanding artifact, however it is most definitely a Plains Arrow from the first half of the 20th century.

This rare and original, ca1920’s Native American Plains / Blackfoot Indian Arrow is in very good condition. The shaft is sound and strong with do damage or repairs. As stated above, the Arrow retains remnants of the original feathers at the fletching. The sinew wrap at the top end of the feathers has been replaced by an old, braided string repair while the sinew wrap that affixes the lower end of the feathers is well preserved as is the sinew wrap that holds the point to the shaft. The hand napped, Obsidian Point is very well preserved as can also be seen in the scans below.
