    Description

Huichol Bead Art - Saguaro Cactus
Hand-crafted by the Huichol Indigenous Tribe
Kinda cute, don't you think? This little cactus, just 4.5 inches in height is a nice example of the renowned beaded art work of Mexico's Huichol peoples. This colorful cactus is built on a wood frame that has been coated with bees wax and then embedded with hundreds of tiny glass beads of various shades of green and red. The beads are arranged, one at a time, to form  different geometric patterns, including stripes and flower blossoms. The cactus, like all Huichol art, is one-of-a-kind. We have four available, very similar to the ones in the pictures.
    HISTORY:
The Huichol people are an indigenous tribe living in secluded settlements within Mexico’s Sierra Madre mountains. They are known for their beautiful Huichol art — animal figures, jaguar heads, masks and ceremonial bowls coated with beeswax, then covered in tiny, glass beads. Hundreds of beads, set in place one at a time, produce dazzling patterns derived from their ancestry and spirituality. The creation of this Huichol bead art requires a great deal of inspiration, patience and concentration, all characteristics of the Huichol Indian outlook on life.
