Description

Specialized waterfowl hunting arrow.
NE California, Klamath/Modoc, S Oregon Paiute or Paiute/Shoshone from Fallon, NV. Hardwood dart inserted into cane shaft, probably Phragmites. Fletching intact, glued on with natural asphaltum. Asphaltum used to secure hardwood dart into cane shaft. When this arrow was shot, it was intended to skip across the water at sitting waterfowl. Ex Wigwam Coll (see note)

The owner of the Wigwam restaurant in downtown Fernley was a Native American material collector and unofficial pawn broker for native people in the region for many years in the mid-late 1900’s.
