UP FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION A 1800s AMERICAN INDIAN SCALPING TRADE KNIFE 12" LONG WITH A  1 PIECE LEATHER FOLDED STYLE SHEATH. HAS OAK HANDLE, RAWHIDE,  BRASS TACKS AND  BEADS. IT ALSO HAS  2 COINS HANGING FROM RAWHIDE. THE LARGER ONE IS A 1857 HALF DOLLAR. THE OTHER IS A 1853 QUARTER DOLLAR. THIS WAS QUITE COMMON AS THE INDIANS HAD NO USE FOR AMERICAN CURRENCY. USUALLY THESE WERE PUT ON THERE WEAPONS TO MAKE A STATEMENT. ONE CAN ONLY ASSUME WHERE OR HOW THEY AQUIRED THEM.
THIS IS A FINE EXAMPLE OF A EARLY TRADE KNIFE MADE BY AND STAMPED ON THE BLADE WITH THE MANUFACTURES NAME....
    AAA 1
    A J JORDAN
    SHEFFIELD ENGLAND
ANDREW  JACKSON  JORDAN STARTED HIS CUTLERY COMPANY IN THE  1870s
THIS IS REALLY A FINE EXAMPLE OF A TRADE KNIFE THAT MADE ITS WAY INTO THE HANDS OF A NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN AND POSSIBLY  MAY HAVE BEEN USED FOR SUCH A UNSPEAKABLE ACT.
TRADE KNIVES WERE BROUGHT OUT WEST BY SETTLER'S, CUTLERY COMPANIES AND THEN TRADED TO THE AMERICAN INDIANS FOR FURS, FOOD ETC.
CONDITION IS VERY GOOD WITH LIGHT RUST ON THE STEEL, DRY RAWHIDE, OXIDATION OF BRASS TACKS. THE LEATHER SCABBARD IS ROUGH BUT STILL PLYABLE WITH SCARS, SCRAPS ETC. POSSIBLE REPURPOSED  FROM ANOTHER LEATHER PRODUCT.   ITS ALSO 2" LONGER THEN THE BLADE.
THIS ALL IS TO BE EXPECTED FOR ITS AGE.
COMES WITH A  4" x 6" PHOTO COPY OF ROBERT McGEE WHO WAS SCALPED AT AGE 14 IN 1864 BY CHIEF LITTLE TURTLE AND LIVED TO TELL ABOUT IT.  AFTER THE ENTIRE WAGON TRAIN  HE WAS WITH WAS ATTACKED AND WIPED OUT BY 150 SIOUX INDIANS.
    INTERESTING READING, LOOK HIM UP
ALSO A PHOTO COPY OF A INDIAN WORRIER HOLDING UP A SCALP FROM A WHITE MAN HE JUST. KILLED.
I AM SELLING THIS FOR A ELDERLY FRIEND OF MINE WHO'S MOTHER WAS PART CHEROKEE. HE IS 88 YEARS OLD AND TELLS ME THIS AND MANY OTHER INDIAN ARTIFACTS HE HAS HAVE BEEN IN HIS FAMILY FOR OVER 80 YEARS.  THEY WERE ACQUIRED FROM A MUSEUM OUT WEST IN THE 1940s. HENCE THE EXCELLENT CONDITION. HIS PARENTS WE'RE AVID COLLECTORS OF NATIVE AMERICAN ARTIFACTS.
HE'S STILL PRETTY SHARP AND I HAVE NO REASON TO DOUBT HIM. THAT'S JUST MY OPINION.
    I'M ONLY THE MESSENGER!
HE HAS OTHER REALLY INTERESTING INDIAN ARTIFACTS I WILL BE LISTING FOR HIM FROM TIME TO TIME. HE SAYS HE WOULD LIKE TO SHARE HIS TREASURE'S WITH SOMEONE ELSE.
I'M DOING THIS FOR HIM AS A FAVOR SINCE HE CAN NOT DO IT HIMSELF.  HE  HAS NO FAMILY LEFT AND VERY FEW FRIENDS.  I MAKE NOTHING ON THE SALE OF THESE ITEMS. I'M JUST TRYING TO HELP HIM OUT.
THIS IS A  REALLY AWESOME LOOKING PIECE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION.
