Rare W.W.I Era,Mecklenburg- Schwerin, Frederick Francis II. Damascus Steel Sword. Brass mounted with highly detailed cast Eaglehead Pommel with red inlaid eyes. The grip has been replaced during the 20th century with Lucite. The cross guard langet bears a double F monogram of the grand Duke Frederick Francis II.- He reined for a very short period and abdicated in 1918 at the close of World War I. See “cut and thrust weapons”, page 273 for a similar example. The blade is highly grained Damascus steel piped back and is etched Eisenhower and Damaststahl,within banners. The blade is in fine original condition but the mounds of this sword need restoration. A rare sword well worth it. scabbard is lacking, 88 cm. Overall. See photographs for complete details.
