    Description

Winnie the Pooh~Agnes Brush~Rare~Vintage~Stuffed Cloth Doll~1940's~Pre-Disney~Good condition overall, considering  his age, love and use, and how many years it has been packed away and stored in a suitcase, within a climate controlled and smoke free home. The lady who owned it, was almost 90 years old when she died, last year. She had this toy, due to her parents being very wealthy and she was an only child!!!  Measures approx. 13.0" tall. The little red shirt contains insect damage, tears, and  the eyes which at one time had buttons for eyes are missing, only the threads remain, there is some soiling on the doll, which
    is to be expected
. Very well made. This Winnie the Pooh doll, made by Agnes Brush from the 1940's. He is made up of tan brushed cotton/flannel, and kapok stuffing. His black cloth nose was sewn as a part of the pattern for the heard, and he is wearing a red sweater. Agnes Brush was an American maker from Whitestone, Long Island, New York who produced the characters from the 1940's until the early 1960's. Based on Ernest Shepard's illustrations, the dolls were designed in an affectionate and whimsical manner. Hand sewn, the dolls were very much an American cradft in the soft rag doll tradition. Nine characters were made and first sold to book stores, followed by department stores. Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga and Roo, Tigger, Rabbit, Owl, and Heffalump.  Disney acquired the rights to Winnie the Pooh in 1961 and have produced a vast array of related merchandise over the years. No two Poohs are alike.
